Default Monks are Fun!

I don't know why some people think monks are boring, but I am having a blast with my new monk. After beating the game with my elementalist, I was starting to get a little bored. Cast AOE, AFK for sandwich, cast AOE, go to the bathroom, cast AOE, watch tv, repeat. I tried a Warrior but I just do not have fun with melee characters. But being a monk is fun!

Everyone in the groups are counting on ME. I love the pressure. Instead of yawning through missions, I have to pay very close attention to everything and everyone, it's great! My first real test was at Thirsty River when I got to monk for actual players for the first time and be the only monk in the group for the first time since I always took a healing henchmen in the past. Even though I was level 13 I did as good of job as anyone.

Another plus is that monks are in high demand in later missions. I no longer have to search and search and search for a group. I can get one anytime I want. And I guess since monks are so needed because people in the desert didn't even mind my low level.

I feel so powerful as a monk. Everyone's life is in my hand! And it brings me joy to keep them all alive. Being a low level just added to the thrill as it increased the difficulty.

The doppleganger battle was fun too. It took me a good 6-8 tries to beat it but I finally found the combination of attribute points/skills to beat it. It only took me 30 seconds to beat it as well. Life Attunement, Empathy, Backfire, goodbye. Although those arrows shots took off a large chunk of my life each time, ouch. After I won I went from level 14 to 18. I find it great to gain 4 levels in an instant than 4 levels after several hours and several repetitive missions later.

Being barked and bitched at gets old though, I just farm with my monk now. Glad you're enjoying it though.

That & staring at the 'Red Bars o'Life' for the entire game. I used to play Monk but no longer do because of all the mistreatment, the stress of the job, & the staring at the 'Red Bars o'Life.' I would rather have fun & enjoy myself.

I too like the challenge. Try being the only monk on the Dragon's Lair mission in the first "monk" cave. That can cause a few gray hairs to sprout.

Yes, I know.

It is a bit more of a challenge than the usual "I'm the only monk in the party" mission in that there are 8 rather than 6. I actually loved it and REALLY loved the capture skill at the end too.

On that note: Can you only carry ONE elite skill on your "belt"? I had word of healing and captured...err...forget what it's called....the dragon's elite in the monk cave. When I went back into town, word was gone. When I reequipped it, the other disappeared. Like a moron I did this about 10 times before the thought occurred to me that you can only equip one elite skill. Am I right?

You're totally right. You can only equip one Elite at a time (hence the Elite tag) but if you manage to capture one while another is already on your bar, you're going to keep it until you ZONE (so if you do it in an explorable and go on to another area, you'll be short of a skill after zoning).

I really liked my monk until I starting grouping for Tombs. Now I hate it and play my ranger instead.
